About

This Bronze Award Project was created by Junior Troop 60260 in 2017-18.

We are the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin Girl Scouts Troop 60260 of the Girl Scouts of Northern California Unit 661. We represent fourth and fifth generation Japanese Americans. We each attend different schools, yet we come together as one troop and meet in San Jose Japantown. Since our first year as Daisies, we continue to experience so many amazing activities together. We enjoy making crafts, earning badges, selling cookies, working at Obon (Japanese Festival), camping in tents, planning events, studying Buddhism and much more! Our Bronze Award Project was especially rewarding because we worked on it together.

This walking tour app resulted from many hours of learning about our very own San Jose Japantown and its importance to our Japanese American community. We hope to make a difference in our community by teaching about these special landmarks in San Jose Japantown and understanding the hardships that our ancestors endured. Our goal is to help educate about the history of San Jose Japantown by providing more information about these important landmarks. We hope people will pay attention to these landmarks instead of just passing them by. We also wish to inspire other troops to earn their Bronze award with sustainable projects like ours.
