Hi this is Danielle and Bria,
You are standing in front of the Japanese American Museum of San Jose. The museum building that you are looking at now, was remodeled in 2010, but did you know that the museum actually started in 1987? The original name was Japanese American Resource Center (JARC), and it was originally located in the Issei Memorial building. The name changed to Japanese American Museum of San Jose (JAMsj) in 2002. The goal of JAMsj is to collect, preserve and share Japanese American history, culture and art focusing on the Bay Area. The museum also honors the sacrifice and hardships of Japanese Americans during WWII. The Japanese American Museum presents a unique collection of permanent and rotating exhibits that report on more than a century of Japanese American history. Some things you will experience are details about the different internment camps as well as a model of a family’s barracks from Tule Lake. The museum is located at 535 N. 5th Street in the Japantown of San Jose, CA. If the museum is open, be sure to take a look inside!
